FIHANKRA

The Township of Ye Fa Ogyamu

THE TOWNSHIP OF YE FA OGYAMU

Ye Fa Ogyamu is the name FIHANKRA has given to the community it is developing in Phase 1 of its Community Development Project in Ghana. Literally, Ye Fa Ogyamu translates to “We have passed through fire.” This name was selected from Twi, Ghana’s most widely spoken indigenous language, and is reflective of the trials through which Diasporans have passed during and following their physical and continuing mental enslavement.

Just 1 hour 15 minutes from Accra, the capital and 45 minutes from Tema, Ghana’s major sea port, Ye Fa Ogyamu is also conveniently located within a 1 hour drive of two of Ghana’s other regional capitals, making it centrally located between three of Ghana’s ten regions. Also within a twenty minute automotive drive of Ye Fa Ogyamu is the port of Akosombo, which provides the major commercial water-bourn link between Southern Ghana and its Northern-most agricultural areas.

Ye Fa Ogyamu is an ever-evolving community. It receives its inspiration from the historical memory of the millions that suffered and perished as a result of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, as well as by the desire for fundamental change by the countless others that inherit from them.

Accordingly, to serve its function best, Ye Fa Ogyamu strives to become a community to which Africans of the Diaspora, regardless of the country of their birth, can come and look for factual guidance in matters related to the reconstruction of Africa and reintegration of her people.

Currently Ye Fa Ogyamu is experiencing moderate, but increasing infrastructural and facility development. And, as expected, it will soon have all of the facilities expected in a community whose members are committed to achieving the goal of the Redemption of Africa. However, apart from the planned libraries, lecture halls and research facilities, there will also be focused medical facilities, recreation grounds, entertainment facilities and financial institutions. Each of these public facilities will be available to the wider community, and as a matter of policy every effort will be made to incorporate historical and contemporary lessons learned in Africa and the Diaspora into all development programs promoted by Fihankra.
